Which is the Best 3G USB Dongle? – Airtel, Idea, Vodafone 3G Plans
If you are searching for the best 3G USB dongle in India, spend a little amount of time to read this article. When we search for a 3G dongle, we mostly look into Airtel 3G, Idea 3G and Vodafone 3G broadband services. These 3G USB broadband services are very competitive in Indian market and have no much difference in their tariff plans or services. Already Airtel 3G charges have been reduced to 70% to attract more 3G Customers. Following Airtel, Idea and later a lot of other 3G mobile network providers slashed their 3G charges by reducing to 70% . People in India prefer unlimited 3G data tariff plans for their USB dongles, as many of us travel along with our dongle and laptop.
Best 3G USB Dongle Plans: Airtel vs Idea vs Vodafone
With the new Airtel and Idea 3G tariff plans, it is expected that these two networks will have huge competition by the end of 2012. Idea new sachet plan will come handy to many students and youngsters, as it targeted the low cost recharge offers in this plan. If you compare Airtel and Idea 3G services, you don’t find much difference in their tariff plans.
There are many factors to consider when you buy a normal 3G dongle or a Universal 3G data card dongle. Always check for its Speed, Customer support, Connection Errors, Network, Plans, Software updates and many more to buy a dongle. To make this easy, we mentioned few pros and cons of these dongles separately. We have used both Idea 3G broadband and Airtel 3G broadband from a month now, and saw many changes in these services and customer support. Both Idea and Airtel will allow you to enjoy the 3G speed at a lesser price. But there are few drawbacks which tell us that they cannot be bought blindly.
Pros and Cons of Idea 3G Dongle:
The biggest problem of Idea 3G broadband is its poor customer service. No matter how much hard you to try to seek for help, you will never get a straight response. 3G dongle is that kind of a device which needs to be having a good support all the time. Because, you will keep traveling with it here and there and never know what happens next. Another biggest problem of Idea 3g is the document submission. We really submitted our documents for 5 to 6 times in Idea office Hyderabad. They gave many reasons saying we are not responsible for the document rejection. Comon, its a minimum common sense to know that, an Idea 3G customer will go to a Idea 3G customer care to resolve it. They say its not our responsibility if our documentation team is not responding properly. Idea has always a bad talk about their customer service.
Finally, after a big discussion and fight, our documents are accepted. That doesn’t end the story here. The first week your dongle will run smoothly and have no issues. Later, from the second week, you will see a lot of server errors in connecting the dongle. Each and every time you try to connect the Internet, it says “our remote connection is unable to understand your request”. The 3G servers of Idea are very bad. You will never get a faster 3G speed in the mornings hours. Right from 10am to 11pm, all the servers will be busy. So if you want to browser or enjoy good 3G speed, it has to be from 2am to 6am only. When i am saying good 3G speed, its only up to 3MBPS sometimes. Yes, Idea will tell you the speed goes upto 7MBPS to 21MPBS. But we never saw that speed in a month.
Now the most irritating issue which will really break your head into two pieces. Your device will not be detected sometimes even if you keep on trying to connect it. You have to keep changing the USB ports whenever you face this problem. And by mistake if you dial the customer care number of Idea, they will tell you to remove the dongle, uninstall the device software, re-install it again and then try in another port. This is the biggest joke you will ever hear in your life. But the actual problem will be a server issue which wont recognize the device from same ports. Whatever the reasons may be, you will be irritated with these issues.
Now finally with your irritated mood, you will go to Idea office or Customer Care Center to resolve the problem, they tell you to wait for few hours and then tell the same old story with a troll face, Your device is working fine now. We had some server issues earlier today and they have been resolved now. If we go on talking about the cons of Idea 3G, they will never end. Now coming to the Pros of Idea 3G, The best thing in Idea is, it will show you the amount of data used in the connection manager. You can see the stats of how much data you have used today and how much is left. Because it has only 1GB – 10GB of limited data per month. Apart from this, Idea has a nothing else to stand out separate and unique from others. Keep reading to know about Airtel and Vodafone 3G broadband plans and dongles.
The actual price of Idea 3G Dongle starts from Rs: 1600 for 7MBPS stick and Rs: 4500 for 21MBPS stick. You can check the Idea 3G Broadband Plans and Tariff’s online. Just enter the State and City you are in. Also take a look at the screenshots added below.
Pros and Cons of Airtel 3G:
It has been one month we are testing Airtel 3G USB dongle. We found few issues at the beginning, but they all were fixed with just one update. We will tell you the problem Airtel 3G Dongle has and how it can be resolved. The main complaint of Airtel 3G dongle is its error connection while browsing Internet. Which means, when ever you are trying to browse something, all of the sudden you will find the connection has been lost. If you check the connection manager software, you will find that the Connection has be reset to connect. Each and every time it gets disconnected, you to keep on trying to connect again.
Airtel Connection manager has a connect button at the bottom to connect the Internet. When you browser more than 2hrs or open pages which are heavy or unresponsive, it will automatically disconnect. So you have to connect it again and again and again. Then we found out how the issue can be resolved. We called the customer care, but no use, they always ask you to reinstall your connection manager. The issue which we resolved is already posted in our previous article Upgrade Your Airtel 3G Dongle Software to Avoid Connection Errors.
After this upgrade, we never found any problem with Airtel 3G at all. The speed is really amazing with nearly 3MPBS to 6MBPS through out the day. We actually feel this is the best USB drive you should ever buy. Make sure you find some good deals in buying the dongle. Because, stores like The Mobile Store, Universal, or any Local stores will offer you dongles at a lesser price. We bought Airtel 3G dongle for just Rs: 999/- in a local store, where it was Rs: 1899 the same day in Airtel Stores. You can find many good deals for Airtel 3G if you start looking for them.
You can check Airtel 3G broadband Tariff Plans online. You have to choose the State and City in the required information to proceed further. Also take a look at the basic 3G broadband plans of Airtel 3G.
Pros and Cons of Vodafone 3G:
Whenever we think of Vodafone, we always keep thinking why Vodafone is so costly. Vodafone has not been friendly to their customers with their 3G services. The tariffs of Vodafone seems to be very costly and not that good enough too. We have reviewed one of our friends Vodafone 3G dongle. The speed will be only up to 2MBPS where you will get around 1MBPS or 1.5MBPS in day time and around 2MBPS in night if you are lucky.
There were no much technical issues with Vodafone 3G dongle, but we got to know some surprising plans of Vodafone, which are not at all impressive. Vodafone dongle costs you around Rs: 1500/- After that you have to pay Rs: 60/- for FRC. You will get Rs: 20 talk time for 3 months. Again you have to install with another 3G data plan of any one of the following. Just look at the above screenshot to understand the 3G tariff rates.
The worst part in Vodafone 3G is, there is no unlimited plan for 3G. It doesn’t matter if you are a Post paid or a prepaid customer, you have to pay 10paise / 10kb of data usage after the download limit. And now coming to the cons of Vodafone 3G. The funniest part of Vodafone 3G is, the customer care. They will listen to your complaint and act as if they solve it for you. But at the end of conversation, they will tell you to walk to a nearest Vodafone store to resolve the issue. As if we all don’t know how to walk to a nearest Vodafone store.
If you want to find out the latest tariff plans of Vodafone 3G, Just enter your Connection type (Prepaid or Postpaid) and check the list for various broadband plans.
By reviewing all these 3G dongles, we come to a conclusion that Airtel 3G dongle is really amazing if you know how to use it. The best dongle always depends on how well you chose you tariff plans. The cons of above 3G broadband providers are basically experienced by CoolPCTips team and some people who are reading it now. There is nothing personal about what we write here and we are not friends with Airtel. We did this review to just educate the people to get a better 3G dongle. Be wise in selecting your 3G dongle and keep browsing the amazing 3G super fast Internet. If you already tried using Airtel 3G, you might have found that Airtel 3G is not working properly. To solve this problem, we have recently posted a article on how to improve Airtel 3G speed from 2G to 3G.
This completes our best 3G USB dongle review for many people who asked us. If you have any query on the 3G tariff plans or data card dongles, dont hesitate to leave a comment. Our team will respond to you within 24hours and guide you to buy a better dongle.
Pls add an article about to unlock these dongle……..
for poor students
Yeah Ansar, I will surely add it in the next article of dongles.
What is the difference between mobile internet and mobile broadband
The one which you use in your Mobile phone is Mobile Internet and the one which you use in PC or laptop is called Mobile Broadband.
i want to purchase best unlocked 3g usb dongle.plz tell me which one is better.
You already got your answer in this post 🙂 Airtel 🙂
Hi
This is an old post as of today which is the best dongle internet for laptop? Also which works good while roaming. I had been using Tata docomo, but whenever I travel it does not detect any signals even after changing the settings. I am talking about the cdma dongle.
Thanks in advance.
Hello,
I’d recommend you get an Airtel 4G dongle, if there’s 4G coverage, you get the best speeds.
Hello. Do you use Airtel 4g?
I do, yes.
how does tata photon compare with the above? why did you not review that?
We will review 3 more dongles in the next articles. It will be Aircel vs Docomo vs BSNL 3G dongles 🙂
TATA PHOTON+ is the worst dongle ever made! I recently buyed a tata photon aboubt one month ago
at that time i didn’t take any decision and quickly buyed this miserable dongle and i wasted Rs.1700
which i got for my birthday. It is the slowest modem i ever used i recharged with Rs.850
to get 5gb @3.1mbps but the downoload speed hardly reached 30 to 45 kbps. I wasted my time &money in buying this wretched device @tataphoton+.
Horrible Product!!!
Thank you soumya, that was a important update and review from you. But tata photon is not 3G, its a 2G network. That is the reason, the speed is limited to only 3MPBPS. and also, it depends on the signal and the area you live. Tata Photon really didnt had that good reviews as far as i know. But should try it once to tell people who good or bad it is. 🙂
Found answers for a lot of questions I was looking at. Thank you!
I suppose the speeds and service mentioned applies to Hyderabad. Inputs on Bangalore, if available, would be much appreciated.
Thanks again!
Hello Davis,
The changes are applied to almost each and every state in India. There is nothing much difference between Bangalore and Hyderabad. If you want to check out the tariff’s of Bangalore, here you go.. Check them here: http://www.vodafone.in/3gworld/pages/3g_services.aspx?hc=5&cid=kar
Good post. This will definitely help me in selecting the best 3G USB Dongle. I have already bookmarked your site. Thanks.
dear sir which is best and compatible usb dongle for vox andriod 2.3 tablet?
It completely depends on you 🙂 I would suggest you to go with Airtel 🙂
what is the cause that airtel dongle disconnects from network after one and half hour and after one our and show message
You have to update your Airtel 3G Dongle software.. Check this out..
http://www.coolpctips.com/2012/05/upgrade-your-airtel-3g-dongle-software-to-avoid-connection-errors/
This dongle business is cheating business. Whether you go for Idea, Airtel or any other brand. I purchased BSNL dongle and found that the 300MB given freely was consumed in 5 minutes of watching video on You tube!!. Next day, I recharged with 750 prepaid plan. It gave a record that if I logged in for 10 minutes and the download was 25MB, it multiplied 4 times or 5 times on its own and showed that downloded data os about 150 MB. Can any BSNL Officer help??
Dude, you have to pay for what you are using 😉 Its completely fair for what services you are using now. Usually you will burn a lot of data usage when watching a online video. Just make sure you follow these below guide lines to reduce extra bandwidth usage.
Network Coverage is an important aspect when u look out for a 3g dongle. I have Reliance, Airtel and Vodafone 3g sim cards. My speed on vodafone is the best. I get around 3 MBPS download and 2 MBPS Upload. That too on my mobile. But the worst is Reliance and Airtel dongle, which gives about 512kbps download and 512 kbps upload. Customer service vice Vodafone and Airtel both are qually good. Pirce seems to be competitive as well. At the end of the day whats the use of having an unlimited plan, if the internet speeds aren’t good enough.
Now according to Indian Govt rules, all 3g dongles who provide 3g service has to reduce their 3g plan charges and 3g tarrifs. So you can enjoy more bandwidth space in a lesser cost 😉 check out various plans and update here :
http://www.coolpctips.com/category/mobile-tricks/3g/
Sir
Way our not given any comment of RELIANCE 3G Dongle??????????????????
We will update about Reliance 3G Plans and usage in our next post. 😉
Which is the best dongle model which can be used with bsnl as well as othe?r service providers
Airtel 3G speed reduced to 2G speed giving a mere 4-6 kbps which is annoying me. And in place of WCDMA or HSPA airtel shown in bottom left of Connection manager, EDGE airtel is shown. Please resolve the problem as soon as possible. I wll b grateful 2 u.
There is nothing you have to do with it. May be you have used all the limited 3g data. So when this happens, your 3g speed from 4MBPS will drop down to 128kbps or less. Also try to update the Airtel 3G connection manager here : http://www.coolpctips.com/2012/05/upgrade-your-airtel-3g-dongle-software-to-avoid-connection-errors/
which is best among the service provider available, for 3G mobile internet …especially in case of speed..
It completely Depends on what your area. Some 3g plans are very good in Chennai and AP. so according to your place, select either Airtel or Idea. Also give a try to Aircel 3g.
A few of my friends are using the Vodafone USB dongles. They are pretty good satisfied with the browsing speed and the bandwidth.
Hii., Wonderful article clearly describing the pros and cons of top competetors.
Please provide your thoughts on Aircel 3g dongle vs Tata Photon+ vs MTS vs BSNL
Am planning to buy Aircel 3g dongle in Chennai, since the plans are so economical. I could not find any reviews of chennai users. So please suggest me if I could go ahead and purchase Aircel 3g dongle.
Hi Arvind,
Done ! We will post about Aircel, Reliance and Tata Photon + very soon. Also we will write about BSNL and MTS. See you soon 😉
Tell me something about tata docomo and aircel dongle.
i am using Aircel 3g. its good when comparing to the other 3g providers coz it has good speed upto 3mbps and also cheap. i think no one is providing 2 gb with 197 and above which is unlimited with 128kbps.
Is everythime the airtel disconnects or it may happen for sometimes only
HI Sufyan,
Just update your connection manager to following one.
http://www.coolpctips.com/2012/05/upgrade-your-airtel-3g-dongle-software-to-avoid-connection-errors/
i want to know about tata docomo, reliance and aircel dongle
I am also a victim of airtel 3g service.
I was previously using BSNL broadband wired. I used to get 1 to 1.5 MBPS. BSNL is good till it works, but any problem you need to get behind them to fix it.
So I bought airtel 3g datacard a week back. It gives speed in kbps man….I dont know why the heck its named 3G….bullshit…
I raised a complaint with customer care on day one, till now they say please wait 24 hours, everyday i call. And they try to raise a new complaint every time.
Please dont buy before testing it in your area….ask the service guy to come to your home and test the speed.
Dude, Just try to upgrade your Dongle connection manage to new one. Check the link below. And also try to change the port sometimes. Usually in day time, you get less speed. Also signal is very important. Just check whether you airtel connection manager shows full signal at bottom. If the signal is less, the speed will be in kbps 😉
http://www.coolpctips.com/2012/05/upgrade-your-airtel-3g-dongle-software-to-avoid-connection-errors/
Hi Satish……u hv written very helpful article…….i just hv bought airtel 3g dongle….it is working very impressively…..bt one thing thats vry problamatic dt there is no unlimited plan in delhi…..within 2 days i hv use 1500 mb from its 2 gb by using 2 or 3 hours in a day…..now rest of the 26 or 27 days wat i hv to do ?????? can u plz tell me, how much time it will take to launce unlimmited plan in delhi ????
Hey Deepak, I am glad you liked the article. Thank you very much. And coming to your problem, there is no unlimited plan from airtel so far. You have to just use that limited band width, and has to be very economical why burning your data limit. You can only track how much you are using, and limit yourself. just take a look at this article.
http://www.coolpctips.com/2012/06/how-to-track-your-internet-bandwidth-usage-in-android-iphone-pc/
And i dont think they will launch this unlimited plan in near future. 🙂 Its better for you to shift to some other local broadband service, which offers more better plans than airtel.
Hi,
On 13/07/2012 I activated airtel 3G for 750. They were promising me a speed of 7.2 Mbps but what I got is 82 kbps speed. I am not using Airtel dongle instead I am using a Huawei modem which can support upto 7.2 Mbps. There is no use in speaking to the customer care. Its better to go for something else.
Sometime it all depends on your 3g signals 🙂 Please do check your signals 😉
can any one tell me that after using the given bundle limit which makes the speed drop to 128kbps video call on msn or other software would work ??? or has any one experienced it ?? please revert to me cze i need to know its kinda urgent for me
Yes, they wont work fine. This is very difficult when you are on video calls. But you can try skype without video 😉
Hi, this is Kaushik from Durgapur (W.Bengal). I am in medical transcription field. i have been using MTS since August 2009, and I am happy with MTS, but I am planning to have a 3G stick for standby support. I have gone through ur article. It is very useful and helpful. Thanks for investing ur time to study on those individual service providers. MTS is providing up to 3.1 mbps (as per their ad) which is hard to get. Here, in durgapur, airtel, vodafone, reliance and tata (not sure) is 3G service provider. As per ur study, airtel is good value for money. i just wanted to know one thing, how much actual “file transfer rate” u got when using airtel 3G or other 3G?
Hi Kaushik,
Thank you for your valuable experience. Coming to your question. Usually withing this is limit, you will get upto 3mbps of data transfer speed. After the download limit, it will be around 128kbps.
Thanks satish for the information
I am planning to buy 3g dongle usb which will support all the simcard. Please anyone can provide me sufficient information.
Thank you
Yes, you can use any 3g sim card in the following leoxsys products.
LN-72i (Universal 7.2 Mbps modem)
LN-72A (Android supported 7.2mbps Modem)
LN-72v (Universal 7.2 Mbps modem)
Find more info online 😉
Dear Satish,
First I would like to draw your attention I am using photon + and MTS bolth simantanously. But I thought both never worked properly. Please let me know, And I have to use the internet on my laptop. I am residing at mumbai and i have to visit delhi and other metro cities. So, please guide me which 3G plan better for me.
I am waiting for your reply .
Since you said you have to travel from Mumbai to Delhi, its important to take care of proper signals and network. Photon + uses mostly 2G network and MTS 3G. but when compared to MTS, photon + has good signals but bad internet speed. and MTS has good speed but bad signal. So its a tough option to select between them. I would suggest photon 🙂
Hi,
this is very useful blog. thanks for ur efforts Satish.
im planning to buy 3g dongle.
i hav searched in my city and found idea dongle (1500), airtel (1000), vodafone(1800). from all this i think i will buy airtel.
just want to know that wats the difference between 3.2 n 7.2 mbps dongle?
and how to format it to use any service provider?
The 3.2 Mbps and 7.2 Mbps refers to the max transfer rate, the higher it is, the higher speeds you will get. However, not all networks and areas support the best speeds, you’d probably get 7.2 Mbps only in cities. As for your other question, you can’t “format” these dongles, they are tied to a single service provider. If you’re looking for a dongle usable with all SIM’s just stay tuned to CoolPCTips, we’ll be getting you a list of the best 3G dongles usable with any SIM card soon!
sir i m from dehradun and i want to know how much speed we can get through airtel, idea, bsnl, vodafone 2G sim modem…
hiii..
Your article is very nice.It is very informative.I m n dilemma to choose a network between aircel and aircel.I want a network which supports 3g with 7.2 mbps and it could also support to a 2g network when i travel.Another thing is when i completed the usage it could provide atleast some good speed n kpbs.which s better getting a network provider’s dongle or common one?Can u pleease guide me ? Awaiting for ur reply.
If you’re in a dilemma, why don’t you get a dongle that works with all SIM’s? You can then change networks by simply changing the SIM. Check out the options here: http://www.coolpctips.com/2012/07/top-5-universal-3g-data-card-dongles/
DEar Satish,
Thanks for the very informative article.
I heard about the Un locked dongles i.e we can use it with all ISP’s.
Do you have any idea about them and their price.
Please do provide some information regarding them.
Thanks and rgds
Absolutely, check out this article!

I want to buy second hand Idea 3G at 800. Is it worth? speed 7Mbps
I recommend you get a new one.
Hi Rahul.
Can you help me with Reliance 3g which comes with an option of two different dongles (7.2mbps and 21.6mbps). Also, woud you suggest Reliance or Tata 3g.
Thanks.
I suggest you go with Reliance as it has a more widespread network. I also think you should get the 7.2 Mbps dongle since you won’t be able to get the promised speeds of the other one everywhere and would probably pay a whole lot more, which would go to waste.
can we use simcard in the tata photon+ Huaweii stick. Coz we can see a place provided at its rear side just above d memory card port.
As far as I know, no dongle provided by a specific network operator provides the option to put another SIM card in. If you’re looking for a universal dongle that can accept any SIM, check out this article: http://www.coolpctips.com/2012/07/top-5-universal-3g-data-card-dongles/
Hi,

Hi Satish Can you suggest which is best for Hyderabad Airtel or Idea or Vodafone. I am currently out of India and will be landing in Hyderabad next week for a month and need the best 3G Dongle. Please help!!!
Hey Faiz,
You can use any one among Airtel and Idea. But the customer service in both these service providers are really bad. But compared to Idea, Airtel is much better. So go for it. And if you want to stick to Hyderabad, I would suggest MTS. Its really awesome with unlimited speed plans. Try it once 🙂

Hey Satish,
First of all thnx for the all information you have given here.
I am staying in mumbai and currently using Airtel broadband (2G). I am planning to change it to 3G dongle now. I am happy about airtel service till date, and after reading your article i feel Airtel 3G dongle will be a better option compared others.
Still what you suggest, which is the best 3G dongle for mumbai? (I dont travel outstations, its only for mumbai)

If you are sticking to Mumbai, then better go for Airtel. Check out the plans in Idea too. They are good, but not better than Airtel 🙂
Airtel is a big fraud , please don’t go with them
Hey thankx guys….
nice article…very informative…
i have a reliance netconnect+ dongle right now …and it works fine….but the problem is that i can only use it on my laptop…..i also have a ipod touch and am thinking of buying a tablet….but i would be able to acess internet on those thru 3g or wifi…..but 3g sim’s for 2 more devices….that would be too costly…….so i found out about 3g routers…..so im goin to get myself a portable 3g wifi router and get one 3g connection and lo-behold —i would have 1 wifi for 3 devices…
so thankx for the info on 3g conns…….
I am surprised how you excluded Aircel from this list.
Dear Mr Kumar:
i am a new member of ur site…i find the articles quite beneficiary for ordinary people like me…anyway shall be thankful if u cud suggest 3 best Universal 3 G dongles (any sim)…i am from Kolkata

Hello Rabindra, we’ve already written an article on it, check out this link: http://www.coolpctips.com/2012/07/top-5-universal-3g-data-card-dongles/
Hi ! I am a college student and want to buy a dongle for my new laptop. I have usage between 1-2 GB only. I do not travel outstation and would require usage primarily in delhi only. Please suggest the best plans for me. another question is that the reliance dongle which is being marketed heavily nowadays, is it actually a viable choice for me , as in does it work well ?
Yes you can choose anyone between a Airtel, Idea and Reliance dongle. Since the customer support is also important, you should choose between Airtel and Idea.. When coming to plans, almost everyone has the same plans in 3G network. If you have MTS there, try to check out too.. Even it has amazing plans, but network is pretty unstable.
hi i’m a college student from alappuzha ( kerala ) . currently i’m using reliance 1* net connect
i’m planning to change it . i’m prefering tata docomo and vodafone
suggest me a better one 🙂
If you have to choose between Docomo and Vodafone, then i would suggest you to get docomo. Even though the network is not that good, they have pretty decent plans and rates. Atleast one or two times it will work properly. But vodafone is pretty expensive and signal wise its good. But i would also suggest you to get anything like Aircel or Airtel 😉
Hey i want buy new dongle but i am confuse because i have already MTNL 3G But they are not working proper that,s why i am feared so plz suggest me which 3g dongle are best & my usages are 1/2 gb
Try Airtel its good. Its just so simple to know how to use Airtel.
Which is the best 3G dongle to access net at high speeds (particularly to download utube videos ) for my Karbonn Smart Tab 1 to access Google Play store. I am from Nagpur (Maharashtra).
You can try Airtel, its serious amazing when you active 3G signal 🙂
I had lost my Airtel USB internet doungle(there no sim inside the doungle) , I want to know how I find my doungle, it is necessary to lodge the FIR, any body misused the doungle , is it blocked by any Regd. No.(but i have not any No.)
There is nothing you need to do if there is no sim in it.
Hi Satish,
Like Abhimanyu, I also have an iPod touch, an iPad, and a portable wifi-router. I want to use a 3G dongle to access internet on both devices. I just wanted to know, if it would make more sense to buy a dongle from someone like Huawei and get a 3G sim, or to go straightaway for an Airtel 3G dongle. Please guide.
I am from Mumbai.
If you want the freedom to choose your own network, I suggest you get one of the last two portable 3G dongle routers mentioned in this article: http://www.coolpctips.com/2012/07/top-5-universal-3g-data-card-dongles/
What are your opinion about MTS dongle? I have heard a lot but hardly seen in Pune.
MTS is horrible. have used it for 7 months and never saw it having good speed or network. i have been complaining to the customer support people every month. all they tell is within 24hrs our representative will come down and sort out the problem but nobody used to come. finally i threw my MTS useless dongle.
Hi
I want to buy a dongle in coimbatore, tm. I will be travelling alot in both urban as well as rural areas. can u suggest which one to buy???
If I’m not wrong, Airtel has the best coverage amongst the 3 in Tamil Nadu, I suggest you get that.
Is there an unlimited pack in airtel and reliance 3g(for dongle)?
Unfortunately no service provider has unlimited plans in 3G dongles.
I am leaving in delhi and i have to buy a good 3g dongle with superb speed… So…
Which would i purchase???
Airtel 3g? Vodafone 3g? reliance netconnect+? Idea 3g? Mts 3g? Mtnl 3g? Bsnl 3g? Tata photon+?
Airtel and Vodafone both have good network coverage, choose one depending on the plans you think would suit you.
I need a prepaid 3G dongle for 30days. Short vacation at Calicut, Kerala. Could you please advise which is the best dongle (Airtel, idea, vodafone etc) in terms of price , plan and service.
Once I buy & use this dongle for 30 days, can I use this on my next visit (which could be after 6months) by just recharging the existing plan?
Hello Ahmed,
Yes, this is possible. You can use the dongle anywhere in India. But make sure the dongle which you choose has accepted your ID verification process. And i would suggest you to use Airtel. The signals are really good and can always allow you to be in a 3G zone. 🙂
Tata poton+ is the worst dongle dont buy that 🙁
I do not agree with this statement. I have been using tata photon plus from the time it was introduced and I find no problems at all. it is very good at Chennai and also in other big cities where the signal is good. I find problem only when I travel by train but it has nothing to do with the device but weak signal in some places on the way.
Gajarajan
Thanks for your input Gajarajan, it’s good to know Photon Plus works well in Chennai. However, we didn’t include it because of the slightly less spread of networks compared to the larger service providers, we hope you understand.
Hi All, I am using Tata Photan in Indira Nagar , Lucknow. Tata Photan signals are very poor and getting more bad now a days. I complained for the same, engineer visited to my place and confirmed that signals are poor. Without resolving my problem , they closed my complaint. I talked to the regional manager for the same but they also didn’t response properly . I would suggest that don’t use Tata Photan to avoid this kind of problem. Even top manager is not listening and not helping to resolve the problem.
Hi Prabhanshu,
Thanks for the info 🙂
i want 3g dongle in ahmedabad which is the cheapest one
I think MTS is chip for now..
They give 3G+ Speed and also price are very less.

which mobile phone or tablet offers 3g internet speed when connected to personal computer
Just get a 3G dongle and if you’re in an area with good 3G signals you’ll get the speeds you desire!
Vodafone dongle and its 3g services are horrible. The take customers for granted. Nobody should buy dongle and 3g services of vodafone.
Hi m leaving in bangalore plannin 2 buy 3g dOngle 4 my laptop n i hav visited all d network store as all network as similar plan and say d the device as speed upto 7mbps but d prices of dongle varies as vodafone =1050, Airtel=1800,tata photon =1200…… So pls suggest me 2 buy best 3g dongle n 2 experience good internet usage speed……
Where are you leaving to? Ask around for the one that has the best networks in that area and get the dongle from that provider.
Ya right now i am using Airtel 3G dongle, Except auto disconnect problem, everything is OK.
will updated the software and check.
Sir can i use a Aircel sim in Airtel 3g doungle?
N i need a second hand doungle. Contac me 95778144081
We have no idea about 2nd hand dongles, and you cannot change SIM in a network operator locked dongle.
I stay in Air force station, which is located at the outskirt of the main city, of UP. presently using Tata photon + but the signal strength always remains poor. Can u suggest me which will b the best internet option apart from BSNL broadband, with which I would b able 2 make video calls
at home.
Try finding out from your colleagues about which network is the best around that area and get a dongle of that service provider for the best internet.
Hi.. Can u plz tell me positive and negative points about micromax dongle which support all sim..and how much speed can i expect if used with airtel..and whats its price. Thank u
It’s a good dongle that includes everything you’d need including calls and SMS, but is slightly expensive compared to the competition. Speeds I cannot guarantee you because it depends on the area where you are. If you are in a main city with 3G signals, you can easily expect 5-6 Mbps though.
Yes where i live it shows H (hsdpa) or 3g signal in my mobile with airtel etc.. And i am not worried about its price..i need the best product.. Can u please tell me which should i go for micromax doungle or single network dongle like airtel ,vodafone dongle..thank u
If you want flexibility, get a universal dongle, or else get a specific service provider dongle.
Hi,
Am planning to buy 3G Dongle.. Can i please let me know which one i can go for .
Am in Bangalore now and frequently used to go to Madurai-TN. SO am expecting the coverage should be good for both of these areas..
Hi Murugesan,
You can try anyone from Aircel, Airtel and Idea. Since you travel one place to another, better you go with Airtel 🙂
I want to use my sim card internet in PC,
can i use dongle…..?
and what is the cost of dongle….?
Have a look at this article: http://www.coolpctips.com/2012/07/top-5-universal-3g-data-card-dongles/
I am looking for 3g dongle around pimple saudagar area Pune. Based on article it seems airtel is better option but article seems bit old. is this still hold true ?
any suggestion on good option for pune and also any review on MTS ?
The article mentions about service in general and the age doesn’t matter. MTS services are not as widespread so we have not reviewed it. The basic rule of thumb is, if you’re getting good signals on your mobile phone (3G) in the area you live in, get a dongle from that service provider.
Sir i am having reliance netconnect broadband+ ZTE AC2726… whenever i used to connect it shows “remote computer did not connected”… Sir, can you also plz tell me how to insert a sim in reliance netconnect…

If you are living in Mumbai and don’t travel much, you can benefit with MTS for good speeds. Also you can try MTNL and Airtel as second and third choice. But if you are traveling much, then go get a Airtel 3G 🙂
http://www.flipkart.com/huawei-e355s-1-wifi-dongle-data-card/p/itmdbk2mgsfrasat?pid=DATDBK2DGB6XHKNT&ref=f7882212-b894-40b0-a93c-176c57bbe23e
Can i buy this dongle in the flipkart to support all the 3g networks in this dongle. Please clarify i am in chennai
Yes, it supports all networks.
I want to purchase a dongle. Which is the best suitable for me:
– Docomo
-Reliance,
– Vodafone?
That depends, what network has the best coverage in your area?
Dear Satish
Could you please suggest a good 3G USB dongle for me . I wish to use it both in Salt Lake , Kolkata and in Pune. I do not travel much . I will however use it while travelling between the two places mentioned above by train or flight .
Thanks and regards
Partha
Hi Partha,
You can go with either Airtel or Vodafone. If you are using your dongle in train, its better to use Airtel. And there will be aeroplane mode in flight, where your dongle will not respond. So go with airtel. 🙂
Thanks so much Satish!
Hi Satish
I am homing on to a Huawei dongle with prepaid airtel 3G SIM. I want to have the freedom to choose multiple SIMS as per requirement or sustained good speeds by the service provider. Your advice please.
Thanks
Partha
Good choice, getting a universal dongle gives you more freedom and flexibility. Have a look at this article as well: http://www.coolpctips.com/2012/07/top-5-universal-3g-data-card-dongles/
Hi,
I recently got Reliance NetConnect+ and the speed is very pathetic it gives only 2Kbps even google takes more than half and hour to load. I complained in Customer care but in vain. Can i put any other sim in Reliance Dongle? Can we break the software and put some other sim instead of Reliance Sim?
No you cannot do that. Instead of that, you better ask the customer care whether they can support with good network there. Mostly, this will happen with bad signal or setting the default as 2G network. Try changing your network to 3G once. 😉
Hi,myself Moinuddin stay at Topsia Kolkata,is there any one who can suggest me that which free Dongel i should take.
Find out which mobile network has the best signals in your area and get a dongle from that service provider.

If we buy open dongle which can use any SIM card, in that case which dongle is best ? by buying any dongle – which sim card service is good ? what is the price of dongle and which sim service is good as well as cheap in ref. to access.
SIM card services depend on your area, so find out if the area of use has good networks. I recommend you get a universal dongle, check out this article: http://www.coolpctips.com/2012/07/top-5-universal-3g-data-card-dongles/

Sir,
I’m doing job in rural sector. Here is no 3g network 2g is available (airtel, idea , voda) so which is best network for it. Tell about Unlimited plan.
Airtel has an unlimited 2G plan for Rs. 149, you can go for that.
Sir please tell me what is the difference in speed of broadband of airtel (which i have been using for 4 months) and 3G dongle. I am planning to disconnect the Airtel broadband and come to 3G for my home desktop PC
Depends on your plan and network. At peak, 3G dongles can offer upto 7.2mbps, but are more expensive. For home use I suggest you keep broadband and get a better plan. It’s not a good idea to depends on wireless for home usage.
I think Airtel is best among others as per my usage.
sir, mysalf mun 4m assam. I hv a vodafone modem zte k3770z. I already upgrade this dongle to unlock all sim. Now it is upgrade to zte MTS MF 192. My dasboard is change to connect manager. Hi Sir
If I get an aitel 3G dongle from bangalore will I be able to use it in other states without roaming charges..Is there any tariff plan which provides zero roaming charges….
Internet packs are devoid of roaming charges.
hi ,all am from banglore i wish to buy one internet dongle can u suggest me me which is the best for me with low budget ?
Get Airtel, I think they have good coverage in Bangalore.
Browsed thru the article, can u please suggest for an I-pad , what dongle should i buy that is wasy to work and easy on pocket. I am not very tech savvy. Thanks for your help.
Dongles are not supported on iPad.
Opps forgot to mention I am in Mumbai.Tx
hi, i m from delhi. wanted to buy a dongle. can you suggest me the best 3g network which is faster and cheaper. i was thinking of mts mblaze. do you think its a right option to go on with.
I think you can go with MTS blaze in Delhi. But make sure the area you live has a 3G zone. If its airtel, MTNL or Idea, you can find much signals in any part of city. And airtel is always best for travelling places and using at home 😉
Sir, i want to buy a 3G dongle..
So which one should i buy…
TATA PHOTON 3G, AIRTEL 3G, TATA PHOTON 3G+, TATA PHOTON MAX, TATA PHOTON WHIZ..
What’s the price of them and internet plans…
I am living in NCR Region…
Sir, whats the downloading and uploading speed of the dongles mentioned in the previous post?
Hi, i planning to buy a 3g unlimited dongle 512 kbps please help me…..
Yes please. what help can we do for you? Please mention 🙂
Hi!, I am from Mumbai and I want to buy a dongle which can facilitate about 2 mbps speed. Can you suggest me a good service provider? I have a broadband connection of 1mbps which I use at home for my desktop. However, I want to have an internet connection of about 2 mbps ( although my minimum requirement is 1mbps) VIA a dongle so that I can use it along with my laptop for eight hours. I am having a temporary office and it is there where I will use the dongle with my laptop. Also, wanted to know the tarrif rate comparison against vodafone service provider and Tata service provider.
I want to basically use a 2mbps dongle in Mumbai , so that I can use an internet connection with my Laptop.
Hello,
Its good that you want to use only 1mbps data per day. But there is no unlimited package or plan in any of the dongle service providers in India. So when ever you cross the limit, your plan will drop down from upto 7mbps to 128kbps or less. I would suggest you to try Airtel which starts with rs 250 for 2gb data download. Mind that even browsing pages is considered to be downloading. Vodafone is pretty expensive compared to other service providers 🙂
Hi!
Thanks for the informative article. I am curious to know the difference between Tata Photon Max, Tata Photon Plus and Tata Photon 3G. Are they all not 3G devices? Can you please let me know the pros and cons between them apart from speed.
Also I had neen a Tata Photon user for nearly 2 years and had found their service by and large satisfactory albeit it was a corporate connection. Recently lot of people I spoke with have praised it. However, it was not covered in your article.
Some of my friends are using a USB device that seems to be provider independent. This will allow them to change service providers without buying a new device. This seeems like a good idea to me. I will be grateful if you could send me your thoughts on the same and which USB dongle to buy in such a case.
Sir, i want to buy a 3G dongle..
So which one should i buy…
Is airtle E1731 Gud for buying
If you think Airtel has good network at your area, go for it!
my lappie ,toshiba satellite c556 p5012 ‘s specification for processor is intel pentium dual core p6200 pro with upto 2.13 GHz ,3MB cache.PLS TELL ME IF MY LAPPIE CAN TAKE AN AIRTEL 3G DONGLE (SPEED UPTO 7 odd mbps).I HAVE NO IDEA ABT THE RELATIONS BETWEEN PROCESSORS AND DONGLES SPEED.IF NO, WHICH AIRTEL 3G DONGLE COULD I PURCHASE.RESPONSE AWAITED.
Yes you can run a 3G dongle, no problems.
thanks gondane
We bought a new vodafone postpaid 3G USB stick connection on 29th sept’12 from Indirapuram, Ghaziabad.Till now this is the worst service given by Vodafone which we have faced. At the time of dongle purchase it has been told to us that your service will be get activated after 48hrs and a techincal visit will be happend for enquiry as this is important for the postpaid connections. We wait for three days and there is no visit from Vodafone, then we visited to Vodafone office and ask them to send someone so that our service will get activated as soon as possible. After two days a person visited at our home in afternoon and promised that service will be activated on same day evening.Till night no activation has been done and on next day afternoon luckly service gets activated. After so long wait it really a worst situation when we found the internet response is too slow and dongle gets disconnected very frequently.Main issue is with the VPN connectivity. As for the office work I need VPN connectivity and I found this is the main in built fault in dongle. After conversation with Vodafone technical support person it has been promised to us that a technical person visit and he will help us out.Again the same earlier situation no visit has done.As per the 3G plan total refund will be done if we gets any issue within 15 days from the days of purchase so we have decided to surrender the dongle. Till date no refund has given to us and we are used to visit Vodafone office every week.
This is quite unfortunate, we hope it gets resolved!
I AM FROM BIHAR . Will you tell me which 3g dongle is suitable?
Get Airtel or Idea.
PLS TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN UNIVERSAL USB AND AN AIRTEL USB DONGLE IN TERMS OF COST,SPEED AND PRICES??WHICH ONE IS BETTER-TATA PHOTON OR AIRTEL IN TERMS OF SPEED IN DELHI/NCR AND WHY??
WHILE IN ROAMING DID AIRTEL PROVIDE SAME SPEED AS IN HOME CIRCLE ???DID THE DATA CHARGES REMAIN SAME DURING ROAMING???
Universal dongle means you can get a normal mobile SIM card, insert it and use any plans provided by the SIM network provider as if it’s a mobile phone. Airtel 3G dongle is specifically meant only for internet and you can use only Airtel’s network. Both these solutions are about the same speeds. As long as 3G network is there, the speeds and data charges will be same all over India.
hello there i bought aircel3g it was completely shit! i have an idea of going with reliance what should i prefer reliance or airtel??
If your area has a good Airtel network, go for it.
Sir, i have bought tata docomo photon 3g dongle of rs. 1650. Firstly the customer care agent said that this is unlocked and you can insert any sim and it is prepaid but now they are saying that this dongle is locked and postpaid… So i unlocked the dongle from a local store… When i inserted my tata docomo 2g sim it is not able to start even a single site… So sir what can i do… And plz tell me 3g sim of any provider with unlimited internet plan around rs.350… Sir is there any trick through which we can make a recharge of 2g on a 3g sim… Like of 26 rs… It is a 2g tata docomo internet plan.. But i can also make this recharge on 3g tata docomo… Sir plz reply me fast…
shall we wait for 4g or should we go with 3g dongles?
4G is a long way from being affordable. A few cities like Kolkata and Pune have it, if you’re there and can afford it, go for it.
hello neha ji ..normally 4 g is best but quite xpensive and gradually its going to be cheaper so for now its not intellectual to go for it.
Hi, thanks for the detailed article, it was of great help.
I wanted to know if it works when you are roaming, and how the speed varies from region to region, I wanted to use it in a village, will it work well?
Thanks,
Sanjay.
Speed is entirely dependent on signal strength, if you have 3G network and good signal strength you can expect good speeds.
Thankssssss 4 ur review…i need it
good working
airtel is good.
I have four connections in mobile i.e. airtel, vodafone, bsnl and aicel. All of them get full tower and also fluctuate sometime. None any of them are providing 3g services at present. Now I’m confused, which service will be better for me for internet service. Please suggest me.
Have you enabled 3G on them via customer support?
sir,i bought a tata photon+ donggle last november….bt unfortunatly tata photon will not offer any service from jan’13 onwards in assam (north east cirle) circle…..d device has a sim inserting option bt it is locked…..sir cn u help me in unlocking d device…
the device model no is: HUAWEI EC156
I suggest you return that one and buy a universal dongle of your own.
sir my airtel 3g has lost connection when i change her network type to wcdma preffered ,but when i change its network type to gsm only it will give full network and give only 236kbps speed so how can i upgrade my software in that speed.
when i reset its network type to wcdma preffer its again lost the conectio has been lost.
when i speak to customer care they says please recharge your sim card, and please reinstall your device.
You have to keep your network type to WCDMA Only! Then only it will work fine. And also set the network to automatic to improve the signal recognization features by the connection manager itself 😉
it doesn’t work work in my computer the problem remain same.
Change your Port and try again! Also try to remove junk files from your PC. you can subscribe to our email list to get a free tool which can do that 😉
is this free?
sir ,i want to ask one thing that is this problem is because of sim card or because of dongle.
and sir one more thing i want to buy the new 3g dongle for multipurpose sim so which dongle is best.
It’s probably because of network problems. If you want a good universal dongle, check this out: http://www.coolpctips.com/2012/07/top-5-universal-3g-data-card-dongles/
Hi Satish, my friend got a lava device and bought a idea 3g sim for 100 rs., he say he loves the speed better than the broadband he used for 2 years. Idea 3g also does not work in roaming perhaps. I am also looking to switch over to a 3g plan. the voting results say Airtel 3g, lets see how it goes on for me!! Thanks for the wonderful and honest review done out here by you !!
Thank you Rohan! You can surely try Airtel as the best 3G device in any condition 🙂
airtel the best 3g other network
Sir,
the airtel connection i m using for surfing disturbs a lot
So which is optimum choice for surfing(am not frequent user) 1)to buy an low end mobile e.g micromax worth rs.2000// etc or 2) buy an universal dongle.
pl suggest
Go for a universal dongle I suggest.
WhicOh is the best AIRTEL,TATA ,or another,I have to connect for both Tablet and Laptop.I am new in this field.now i am using MTS 2G IN bangalore its speed is less than 100kbps from last one year ,i need best speed
Have a look around and see what network has the best 3G signals in your area, then get a dongle from that provider.
Pls dont buy vodafone connection in ap ! the signal is worst and speed is too bad so as the customer service they will act like as if they are the best service provider in the world but is of no use
which dongle is better ..Huawei EC303C dongle or Lava 730G or Airtel 3G
best internet service available in Mohali (punjab)
IS Aircel 3G Dongle is Good
Best dongle connetion in India
3G broadband sucks…its terrible…..pathetic…..very network heavy….
My vodafone device gives good speed but uses up 1/2 MB per minute in heartbeats for maintaining connection
I dialed-in and connected with no usage from my end the device was using up 1/2 MB / minute.
ANYONE….PLEASE VERIFY IF ITS SAME CASE FOR OTHER PROVIDERS…..
As a tip, only dial if necessary and dial-out as soon as possible. Its not made for laid-back surfing.
FYI….the dongle I have 3770-Z.
My 4 GB plan was over in one weekend.
Hi have Micromax dongle and i am using Aircel 3G its awsme !!!
which one is the best dongle among airtel and tata photon+ and why
Generally Airtel has better network coverage and a faster standard.
@Kaushik
Please tell me how you are using Airtel 3G conn.
From customer care it is told that airtel is not supporting 3g.
if you use 2g in dongle , then it will give you 3g speed.is it true?
Of course there is 3G on Airtel, who said there isn’t?
Hi i have reliance 3g dongle , for 1 year it worked nicely , but from this feb their is no network coverage , downstairs no signal , upstairs some bars of signal can only be seen
how to resolve this promblem and shall i opt for airtel 3g does it have same promblem or it has better signal coverage?
It depends on area, check if Airtel has network in the places you want and if it’s better, go for it.
Reliance 3G will always be the best one.
I’m looking for a prepaid Internet dongle. Could you please help?
this article was very informative ! can i get review of other service providers like reliance, docomo 3G? thnx bef4hand !
which is better huawie e303c or micromax 352g or idea 3g dongle
The first two are universal dongles, the last one is not. On what basis are you comparing?
Hi, I’ve been told that its better to buy an unlocked dongle which can use any sim ,as provided by micromax, or huawei or lava or beetel ,so that i can switch to other Sims n better tarriffs as per my suitablity. So is it better to go with this choice over airtel 3g which happens to b d best as per your account??
We mean the best amongst locked dongles. For flexibility I suggest you get a universal dongle like one of these:
http://www.coolpctips.com/2012/07/top-5-universal-3g-data-card-dongles/
I would like to buy an airtel dongle . It’s for home usage only. I would request to suggest a low cheap plan in airtel.
See this:

Hi sathish kumar i really I really like and appreciate your article. keep posting these type of articles, it will be really helpful for new users like me and will educate lot of people like me.Thank you so much.
I am a student,so plz tell me about a dongle with much lower cost tarrif plans(prepaid),Emils and e books, journals I prefer more over downloading more movies,so plz help me select the cheapest plan accordingly
All the plans are here mate, if you want to download movies you can’t expect to do it on the most basic ones though.
THE BIGGEST PROBLEM OF IDEA 3G BROADBAND CONNECTION IS ITS POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE.
Hi I live in Bangalore near kammanahalli I intend to get a 3g dongle connectivity for my home laptop kindly suggested which company is best
I suppose Airtel has a good network in that area.
I need to use 3g netconnection dongle in laptop n tablet Lenovo a1000 for online movie and taking online language test.
Hmm ,i want a fast dongle with more than 21 mbps speed or 7.2 mbps
Any suggesting? i live in Gwalior,Mp so i want a dongle which gives nice speed in mp
Most of the network based dongles top out at 14.4 Mbps, you should see what network has a good reception in your area and get one from that provider.
i want to buy a dongle but i am confused which should buy pls help
Depends, which network has good coverage in your area?
hai
i am intrested for the mts data card
MTS has affordable plans, but has a pretty limited network, you should consider that as well.
I am working as s/w engineer, i would like to purchase airtel 3G PREPAID DONGLE for the Project as well as Browsing purpose. Will u please suggest me the best plan in prepaid Airtel3G……
The Rs. 950/month plan should be sufficient.
we had a tata dongle for our pc.
later we were contacted by a tata salesman
who said that he would upgrade our connection to 3g
and we will have to pay only 450 rs. a month since our usage was very little.
but later that month we found the billing for above rs 1200.besides we are bieing
billed for the old connection as well.so we are getting two bills for one connection!
now we are being hounded by tata bill collectors. we have refused to pay unless this problem is rectified.they have now cut our connection.
You should really get in touch with the office, this is deplorable service!
Thanks a lot Satish, your tips worked for me. Now my 3G dongle works much faster than office internet 🙂
Using MTS 3.1 Mpbs for the past three years. As long as you are in your usage plan, the speed is good, but once you exceed the limit, they hardly gives the minimum speed they have promised. I have used it throughout the country, not had much problem with the speed. I am using 10 GB plan with Rs 899 plus taxes. If there are any other dongle that has better value for money, or if there is any way to get better speed please let me know. Also would like to know about MTS 9.2 Mpbs.
In the above article you have not commented on Tata DoCoMo 3G. Please convey your opinion about this.
hi… i stay in pune and want to purchase a new dongle… i want this dongle mostly for skype. kindly suggest which network is good …
In the main city area Airtel is pretty good, you can get 4G as well!
thanks a lot.. what about tata photon?
actually i want to use broadband dongle in delhi and i am not sure about which network i should use. kindly tell me which network should have high speed, and better service.
Well that mainly depends on what network is best around your area, that’s the most important thing. Once you’re shortlisted networks, then you can choose providers and plans.
Today, as of June 2014, what is the best 3g internet solution for a heavy user who needs constant high speed? Am I right in saying universal dongle + trial and error with different sims to see what works best?
A universal dongle is the way to go, as for the SIM, it sort of depends on your workspace. If your workplace is more or less fixed, you should simply get the one with the best network around there.
thank you Mr. sathish,
for your support, I have used ,idea, it is not so good ,but ok, airtel ,i don’t know, you are right Vodafone is always ,costlier, and charging for un wanted services, which I never requested
Hi,
I live outside India. I visit India in holidays and need internet access for my laptop. So can you explain me how the prepaid dongles work? Will I have to pay every month or only when I use it when I am in India?
Thanks
You can recharge it only when you’re here, although there is a certain inactivity period after which the dongle is deactivated. For more flexibility, consider a universal dongle which lets you insert any SIM into it.
Hi,I want to buy universal dongle.I m having BSNL broadband connection and its a mess.My location Patna,Bihar.Pls suggest me good dongle so that I can use any sim. Thanks 4 the post , its old but still it helped me making my mind.
Here, have a look at this:

Thanks !!
Hi Satish Kumar,
Thanks for your column and write-ups. I am travelling from US to South India for about a month. I was told that I can buy some device to access Internet. Would you please advice how I can buy this device and what are the requirements, especially because I am a foreigner in India. Thanks very much for your information. Much regards.
Joseph Pakkianathan
You’ll need ID and address proof to purchase a dongle, you can get it from any of the larger network provider offices.
Now a days there are a number of mobile service provider companies are providing 3G services to their potential customers . The tariff plans and usage plans are quite differ from every company to company. Airtel, Aircel and Reliance are the most successful 3G service provider companies throughout India. It is better to take 3G service of any mobile service provider company after verify from different 3G review sites. By the way thanks a lot Satish for such nice and informative information. I appreciate a lot for your blogging effort.
I am using bsnl dongle in ap can i use same dongle in Karnataka..will there be roaming charges on it…
Internet packs don’t have roaming charges, so you can use it, no problems!
hi sir
i want to buy universal 3g dongle please suggest me which brand is best under 1500 rs. soon thankx
Get this one:

I want to buy a 3g dongle who have good speed.. and from nagpur… so please suggest me which brand is the best for use in nagpur in plane 500 to 700..
That really depends on your area, what has the best network? Once you find out which one has the best network, you can choose a plan.
Hi Rahul,
I live in Delhi/NCR region wanted to buy prepaid 3g dongle which should be value for money. Is their much a difference betweeen 14.1Mbps & 21.6Mbps dongle while same speed is not achieved by any operator. Huawei seems good to me …..Is it worth buying Wi-fi dongle…..Please suggest.
Sure, have a look at some of the newer universal dongles, and get a SIM card which has the best network. In Delhi you should be able to get 14mbps.
http://www.coolpctips.com/2014/07/top-5-high-speed-universal-3g-data-card-dongles-2014/
Should i want to buy dongle or i can use my mobile wi-fi connectivity to work in laptop.
Also i had recharge both vodafone & Airtel 3G prepaid net connection but the speed in vodafone u cann”t imagine good speed. in the case with Airtel the speed is worst why it is so
I’m sorry, could you please phrase your question clearly?
Huawei E8231 or Dlink DWR 710….???? gaurantee will be valid if buyed from flipkart….??
Go for the Huawei. Yes, warranty will be valid.
Hi. I’ve heard mixed reviews about the airtel 3g wifi dongle (21.6 Mbps). Most of the reviews online say its pretty bad! How is the connectivity on Sohna Road, Gurgaon? as we face huge network connectivity issues in this area. is this device worth getting for a heavy user with high speed requirements? after having read lots of online comments and reviews about the various dongles available in the market, the Airtel one seems to be the best of the worst. is this a true reflection of the product? Would appreciate a feedback. Thnks!
It’s quite simple, check out how the network is on a mobile phone. If it’s too your liking, go for it. If not, try other service providers.
Guys, Use Olive V-MW310 universal data card. It’s the best in terms of speed+price. a total value for money, the perfect choce choice u would ever like to make. I am using it from last 10 months ,absolutely no problem at all.
which nework low cost as well as faster reqd. answer…….
i am used photon 3g dongle for 3 months, speed is ok, but tarif plans are not good, please mail me best other dongles for accurate speed with plans
That depends on your area, which one is the best there?
I bought Tata Photon 3G WIFI in Pune and the speed sucks. I have tried it across multiple location within the city but no much help. During the day time (when network are loaded) the google page would not open (speeds are lower than 12KBPS)… It is not a typo. So think twice before you buy TATA DOCOMO 3G connection in Pune. My experience with Vodafone 3G has been good… but yes they are costly.
Planning to buy a BSNL WIMAX but can’t decide as we have all heard for poor customer service from BSNL on phones & mobile. Can you advice any pros or cons on it BSNL 3G dongle?
Like you said, the customer service isn’t too great, and the packages aren’t worth it either.
Pls can u give me a comparison of airtel and photon
I’d say go for Airtel, Photon’s network isn’t great.
hi friends.. can u suggest me which is best dongle 3g… which telecom company take less cost.. and giving gud features… plz suggest me..
hi can u suggest me which one is the best dongle to use i have used tata photon other then this which one is great
Hello Vinayak, you should go for one which has the best network around your usage area.
I have used Photon and their service has deteriorated(2G). They had good connection 3 years back but not they are very slow and regularly gets disconnected. The places it used to connect earlier is not connecting now. Airtel i don’t know about dongle but my mobile has frequent call drops and loss of signal not only at base station but on roaming too. Very bad service for the last one year.
Hi,
I live in central delhi! Which 3G data card would suit me best? Customer service and speed would of course, be my first priority.
Also, I am upset by the way my mts mblaze has been performing for the last couple of months. Before that, the speeds were good enough. But now they remain as low as 100 kbps during the day! Any comments, Rahul?
Thanks!
Hi Amitesh,
3G Data Cards, just like mobile phones, depend on the networks. So I suggest you go for one from a provider with the best network quality in and around your area. If I’m not wrong, Airtel is pretty good in that area.
For a rural village I work where 3g services are not available which network should I go for?? Bsnl ??
That depends, what mobile network have you tried there that works well? Check around with different network users and see what’s got the best signal strength and go for that.
Thank you for this useful information.
Dear all,
I want to take new dongle type connection
I am residing in Ghaziabad , Chiranjeev Vihar
There is two option in my mind
1. Should I take universal dongle ( Unlocked sim type ) and data card of airrtel
2. Should I go for tata photon / reliance etc.
Kindly suggest me which plan is best.
If I choose option no. 1 , than which universal dongle I should buy ( Micromax , Huwai or I ball )
Go for a universal dongle, something from Huawei would be a good choice, depending on your budget.
I am looking for the dongle which will be compatible with XP W7 and W8 also.
It should be universal means it should work with any sim card. can you just suggest the best one…??
Thank you
Get one of these:
http://www.coolpctips.com/2014/07/top-5-high-speed-universal-3g-data-card-dongles-2014/
Please tell me if I should go for Idea/Airtel/Vodafone any one of these three. Tata Photon experience was a nightmare. I stay in Mumbai
Go for Idea or Vodafone.
Don’t go to Vodafone.. I never ever seen these type of network in my life… Worse*100000 time… Waste of my time and waste of money
I am suggesting you please don’t take Vodafone dongle. They said that till 2 GB u get 2mbps, but it is coming just 250 kbps after completed It is just 0.8kbps
Hi,
Which dongle/service provider would be your recommendation for Bangalore (Whitefield area)? Also, I am looking for a plan that does not charge me on roaming. Thanks for your pointers.
That depends on what mobile network is the best in that area, I think it would be Airtel or Vodafone there. Dongles don’t charge you for roaming, so just go for the one that offers you the best plans and the strongest network.
Hi!!! i have been planning to buy a 3g dongle for quite some time but am damn confused. Could u suggest vich dongle has best speed & reasonable price range in Haryana region?
Some1 Suggested tata photon Wifi….is it good?
More than price I’d recommend you check which has the best network. Whichever service provider has the strongest signals around there, go for that.
Yes, Tata photon max wifi dongle is best for 3g internet. It’s connect upto 5 devices. High speed internet and strongest signals, try this..
Can reliance be an bettet dongle????
Depends on network, if your area has good Reliance network, it can be a viable alternative.
Should I buy Airtel Wifi Dongle or Idea Wifi Dongle in Maharashtra ?????
Depends, which one has better network in your area?
Hi I am using MTS 3G data card of Rs999 postpaind plan. but getting only up to 100 kbps speed. no body is listening my complain just the MTS guys are saying work is going on when complete you will be informed. this going on from 3 moths.
That is pretty bad service.
I must write here people must not get cheated by MTS,
Mr Karan I had the same experience before buying the dongle I asked for the demo , which they didn’t agree to give. By watching the add in TV we all get cheated. … hope TATA is the company which has got some ethics in business
on idea 3g I even got speed up to 6.8 Mbps.but the worst part of idea is .if your phone brand new in market and they haven’t got the detail of that phone.you can forget 3g connection for about 4to 5 months.
I am thinking of buying the Air Tel 3G PREPAID dongle. Does it come with a SIM card inside, when I buy the dongle ? As I don’t have a seperate Air Tel Mobile SIM card which I can insert inside.
How easy is it to buy the PREPAID dongle ? Do I have to fill forms & POA & POI documents and go through the whole verification process the same way it is for byuing a PREPAID mobile SIM ? Is it as complicated as buying a prepaid SIM card for your mobile or can I just go in buy the dongle & walk out ? Then just come home & plug & play to my laptop & I have prepaid internet access for 30 days & 3Gb , 4Gb , 5 Gb etc depending on the prepaid plan I choose & price.
I am a NRI who will be visiting India for a month , I just have a PAN card for POI , but don’t have any Indian POA like election card , Aadhar card etc.
Yes you get the SIM card inbuilt, the process is pretty simple, you shouldn’t have much trouble. Worst case, you can ask a relative to get it for you.
i have been recently using dlink modem with airtel postpaid connection . but i’m not getting my 3g desired speed even it shows 3 signals of hspa
It could be a poor network, have you tried in other areas?
Hie..I want to buy a wifi dongle which supports all sim..Hussein brand is offering such device.is it worth it to buy this device or should I buy Airtel device??
Go for a universal one.
Plz frds tell me about mts frds . I want to know all evrything about mts dongle 3g wifi also about thei post paid prepaid plans . Which should i choose. Mts conectivty evrythng,
And also abot 3g wifi portable routers which one should i choose and which is best. Should i opt for locked or unlkd dongles.
How to check the Netwok provided in our area by each of the service providers to make a better decision?
Basically word of mouth, talk to a few people using different networks. Or if there’s one network dominating, see whether it provides consistent connectivity.
I am using one MTS Ultra wifi which should give 9.8 mbps speed. It gives hardly 250 kbps max. Its service is extremely poor. They do not accept customer complaints and if you are able to somehow put a complaint through the shop from where purchased the dongle MTS people will close the complaints even without informing you.
Think 10 times before you purchase MTS dongle.
How to connect bsnl dongle to laptop
Just plug it into your USB port and install the software that comes along with it.
Ok, is there a problem if i buy a huawei univeral dongle and put airtel sim so that i can get the same effect ?
No problem at all, the branded dongles are basically just the same, only locked to a network.
Over the pack , under System Requirments of Huawei dongle its written
Windows 8( “Does not support windows Rt”),Windows 8.1
What does this means, mine is Windows 8 and frequent network issues were there when i try to upgrade to 8.1 , so will it work in windows 8 fine ?
It will work just fine, Windows RT is a different, discontinued version of Windows 8.
I need Dongal with min 2MBPS speed for office when i go from Bangalore to my home town in AP .Right now i am using Tataphoton+ which is very less speed of 20kbps in my area
Go for an Airtel or Idea.
Hi,
Pls suggest the best 3G dongle in Chandigarh area. Since i travel a lot so want to know that the roaming is free or not. Free would be preferable but could not be compensated against speed.
Ritesh
Data is always free on roaming, get something from Airtel or Idea.
I need to buy a dongle for my travel to Karnataka, Mangalore to be precise for my laptop. The usage would be for a month or so and on a daily basis for a few hours. What would be your best suggestion? Airtel 3G or TataPhoton? Last time I had carried Tata Photon, I had difficulty with the connectivity.
Go for an Airtel or Idea, Tata Photo doesn’t have the best network.
can you please tell me the best universal mordem which works with windows 8.1
Check this out, all of these work well:
http://www.coolpctips.com/2014/07/top-5-high-speed-universal-3g-data-card-dongles-2014/
I need a dongle at affordable prices please guide me to know
Are you looking for a network based or universal dongle?
Is their any dongle to use multi sim Which I want means different sim in one dongle
There are a couple of them, but not from very reputable companies.
i am searching for super fast speed dongle which can work in small villages in maharashtra i need very very good speed internet dongle
Airtel and Idea have the widest network coverage, so get one from those providers.
I want a best dongle connection for internet so u pls tell me which one is the best
Where are you planning to use it mostly?
I want a dongle only for 3 days. I live in gujarat. And in those 3 days the usage will be around 3-4Gb. Can you suggest the best dongle and the plan? I didn’t find any.
I suggest you get a universal dongle and use a SIM.
I am travelling to Delhi for a few weeks and would need to use the Internet for a few hours everyday. Which dongle would be the best for my laptop?
If you must get a service provider dongle, go for a Airtel or Idea one. Or else, you can get a universal dongle and buy a SIM of your choice.
Hello,
Thanks a lot for this blog. You people just saved me.
I’m searching for best 3G dongle and I landed here.I made up my mind for Airtel 3G but I still have a doubt, I’m confused between this Airtel 3G wifi dongle and any of the universal dongle which is wifi enabled.
There are no internet service provider for my area. I need internet and wifi for atleast 4-5 devices and the area covered should be around 1500-2000 sq ft and also can you suggest a better plan for me in Airtel.
Usage: Normal browsing, social networking, Torrent downloads.
area: Shamshabad.
Thank you.
Dongles are for light use and depend entirely on mobile network, so if you plan on torrents and stuff, it will be extremely expensive. First you need to make sure if Airtel has 3G network in your area. Also, for that sort of area, you’ll need to get a router with a USB port, because the WiFI dongle itself won’t have that much range.
Can you tell me which dongle should i buy? i am really confused… Please help me airtel, photon+ or vodafone???
Go for Airtel or Idea.
i am looking for an Universal Doongle .my intention is for extensive Downloads,Torrents.
Could you please suggest ädvice n this regard? apart from a Doongle do i need to buy anythïng else? I currently hãve idea and airtel simcards .I also travel once in a while and will use the doongle for say 3to 5 yèars. Which Network is better? and wat aböüt other Neworks?! Thankyou very much Sir
Dongles are typically for light browsing, you really shouldn’t use it for torrents, since it’s expensive. 1GB of 3G data costs around Rs. 250 on an average, so it’s not really practical to use it for heavy downloading. If you still want to go for it, just get a universal dongle and a SIM from a network that has good coverage in the areas you travel to.
Dear Rahul,
First of all thankyou very much for such a speedy reply!!
I stay n a lodge, hence Wifi connctn(bsnl) is impossible:( Is tere any ooptìõn for WiFi without phone?
I want a Dongle that has so much benefit
with ok speed for downloading
in bangalore
Go for an Airtel 4G dongle, but remember that data packs are pretty expensive for regular downloads.
Which dongal should i use which never disconnect in between and show hogh speed
That really depends on network strength, you can’t say what will or won’t disconnect.
Dear sir,
1. Which 3G wifi dongle is good for any network providers?
2. Can Universal 3G wifi dongle is suitable for Airtel, Tata. Idea , Reliance, vodafone, BSNL ? We are in Thane west location.
3. Which network provider is cheapest and reliable in Thane west for unlimited 3G plan.?
Hey,
1. You can go for any universal 3G dongle.
2. All SIMs you mentioned will work.
3. MTNL, BSNL, Airtel and Idea should do the job.
Hi…I live abroad and visit India once every year for a month or two. I need a high-speed wifi connection at home (in car would be great addition). I do not want any bill surprises, so fixed rate, unlimited plans would be great. and also which keeps my membership/subscription alive for next year or so till i visit India again. Which one would you recommend? Look forward t your reply. Kind Regards.
Hey, you can get something from Airtel, the prepaid plans basically are active as long as you pay for them. Even once it expires, you can just add another month’s recharge.
hai this is uday i just need a suggestion regarding data card i am staying in bangalore , nagarbhavi university road i want to purchase wifi dongle so which service provider is good for use please help me
Airtel is good, you can also get 4G.
Sir,I want to have a wifi now for downloading. So should I go with airtel wifi dongle or router
If you can get a wired connection that connects to a router, go for it. Much more reliable.
Hi…i was using a midas software(given to student works on internet) through dongal of reliance it always shows a connection error due to which my software get stop….because of it automatically shows that…shows message to contact your software company..this has happened many times with me…they are saying to use a network which is high in speed and never disconnect in between…..so i want to buy a new dongal(datacard) can u suggest in on my this email id…baigrumman@gmail.com ….kindly reply as soon as possible its urgent
Thank you webmaster for this clear and detailed article on different dongles.
I have been searching for this for the past couple of days and got full information.
Thank you webmaster to helping me to buy a proper dongle. Previously I was confused which will I buy? But now it is clear
Hi,
I’m staying in Marathahalli, Bangalore. Presently i have one broadband connection and its speed is very bad on weekends and we don’t have any alternative service providers in this area to change connection. I need good intenet speed on weekend only and remaing days I can use office net. So I’m thanking to buy one 4G dongle which can solve my problem. Please tell me which dongle is better to buy?
Only Airtel has 4G in Bangalore.
I want to purchase a dongle but before purchasing it i want to know that in which type of dongle setup we will get speed more like if i purchase idea dongle with locked sim or if i purchase dongle from dlink or beetel etc and insert my sim?
Both are basically the same, but with universal dongles you have more flexibility.
i have a airtel 3G dongle it was working fine since >2 yrs
since last 2 weeks, it started showing unable to register network
and after SIM change’Sim Detected invaild.
talked too many to cus care
not helping they do not give a visit
kindly help
gave request for closing the connection
That sounds like a company issue, you should escalate it from customer care. They might have deactivated your SIM.
Dear Rahul,
I am planning to buy 3G dongle. I am staying in Pune. What will be your suggestion for me?
Regards
Your best bet is an Airtel 4G dongle, because if your area has 4G coverage, no other dongle will be faster.
hi.
I think Airtel broad band is giving offers like unlimited talktime and surfing. Can I have ur comments on it.
Hey, it’s just unlimited in name, there’s always a FUP.
Hi,
Iam going to buy 3G dongle which one is best?
If you’re in a 4G enabled city, go for an Airtel.
MY REQ. IS WI- FI DONGLE WITH MIN. 3G SPEED AND UNLIMITED USAGE PER MONTH.SUGGEST ME A DONGLE WITH TARIFF PLANS
If you mean unlimited 3G speed, there’s no such thing. You can get limited plans, something around 15 GB per month.
mts 3g+ dongle is the worst dongle ,which i was using for 1year ,worst speed less than 600kbps download speed but mentioned as upto 9.8mbps i have ever seen 1 mbps download speed when using mts and i thought af changing to ACT upto 20 mbps .I have cancelled mts connection and piad all the due amount, i throwed the mts dangle and after 2 month i received a message from mts that your bill is 1092 please pay it .I called the customer care and asked y should i pay i have cancelled mts before 2 months ,for that thy are saying that you should pay sir or you go legally .Worst custome care.I advise everyone that dont use mts postpaid they will generate the bill unnecessarily.Worst internet
Dear Sheebin,
I also having same issue for MTS. Very worst customer service. Even thought the connection closed they are asking to pay the money. No one prefer the MTS. It is worst worst worst……..
i already have universal dongle but it is not recognised now in my laptop. i tried for software update but i couldn’t get. i want to buy new dongle, which one is better, i live in kamareddy, in telangana.
Go for any one from these:
http://www.coolpctips.com/2015/08/top-high-speed-3g-4g-lte-universal-dongles-2015/
Hello sir, I am staying in Lucknow and wish to buy a wi-fi dongle. Which one is the best dongle in this region. Kindly suggest the plans to be adopted.
Do you want a network tied dongle or a universal one?
i agree that idea delivers 3g high speed from 2am to 6 am and 5pm to 7 pm.I use idea 3g pack of 44/-(135mb) and i get 220 mb free 4 30 days always,in starting it is 350 mb after 4monts its 220.I have to know why the data conseumed on mobile broadband is more than mobile internet???
I’m sorry, could you please rephrase your question?
i want to purchase the maximum unlimited high spees dongle, so which one is the best to purchase.
Go for one of the 4G dongles here:
http://www.coolpctips.com/2015/08/top-high-speed-3g-4g-lte-universal-dongles-2015/
I AM USING HUWAI UNIVERSAL WITH VODAFONE 3G but speed is really worst, please freinds give some suggestions
Have you set max speed to 3G and are in an area where there is 3G network available?
I would like to go for laptop dongle single user. Please suggest the best ISP for usage in Delhi and Goa.
Also, a local shop has suggested to buy a dongle of any company and purchase sim of any suitable ISP. Incase, I do not find any ISP suitable then I can switch to some other ISP.
Tks
Yes that’s a good choice, because you have the flexibility of swapping service providers. Delhi and Goa have different dominating service providers, so you should probably consider a universal dongle. Check this out:
http://www.coolpctips.com/2015/08/top-high-speed-3g-4g-lte-universal-dongles-2015/
Is Reliance wipod is good to use as it is portable wifi in the market or should I go for some universal dongle, kindly let me know.
I suggest you go with a universal dongle with WiFi capability, Reliance networks aren’t too reliable, and you’ll be stuck with them if you go for a Wi-Pod.
Hello admin pls tell me abt MTS dongle its speed and performance??in tamilnadu circle?
I wouldn’t recommend MTS, their service and support isn’t great.
Don’t go for MTS bastards network..They came with first 3.1 MBps dongle , next with 9.8 mbps dongle, then with Wi-fi Post paid, Now with one-touch X080C, which came into market without any ad…In the box it is given 3.1 mbps speed, but in town it doesn’t open an email..
The bastards reply that it is bound to give 0.5 to 1 mbps only….Now MTs is taken over by
Reliance Communications..Both are cheaters, who plan to sell dongles and make money
