Battlefield 4
Although it’s not entirely clear if Battlefield 4 continues the story from the previous game, it looks plenty promising and is slated to hit next generation consoles as well. The gameplay trailer introduces new characters and locations plus looks super slick and cinematic. Call of Duty: Ghosts
Another year, another Call of Duty game. One of the most successful franchises of all time gets another sequel this year and it’s rumored to be named Call of Duty: Ghosts, an obvious reference to Ghost, a character from the Modern Warfare story arc. Even the cover art seems to suggest the same and features his trademark skull marked mask. While games in the Call of Duty series have been great, the dated graphics and similar approach is getting slightly stale, let’s hope that we something new and radical this time around.
Update: The next installment in the Call of Duty franchise will reportedly run on a new engine.
Release Date: 5th November 2013
Grid 2
Although not part of a big franchise, Grid 2 looks extremely promising with its blend of arcade and simulation gameplay. With a huge list of cars, a new control scheme, great graphics and one of the best multiplayer racing experiences around, Grid 2 could turn out to be this year’s sleeper hit since there’s not many other racing games coming out on the PC in 2013.

Metro: Last Light
Metro 2033 was one of the most underrated games of its generation and blended horror and FPS elements with aplomb. Even the story, based on Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky’s book of the same name was very good. Metro: Last Light is the sequel to Metro 2033 and will continue Artyom’s story in post apocalyptic Moscow. Following THQ’s dissolution and its buyout by Deep Silver, the release date was delayed to mid-2013 from the beginning of 2013. If you haven’t played Metro 2033 yet, get to it, because Last Light looks very interesting.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist
Sam Fisher returns to kicking ass in Splinter Cell: Blacklist this fall. Continuing from where Splinter Cell: Conviction left off, Sam Fisher is tasked with taking down an international terrorist outfit called “The Blacklist”, which threatens to attack the United States. It introduces a couple of mechanics and changes the gameplay a bit, but perhaps the biggest change is that Michael Ironside will not return to voice Sam Fisher, instead voice acting and motion capture duties will be taken over by Eric Johnson.

Rainbow 6: Patriots
The long running Rainbow Six series has been in the slumps since the past few games, but the upcoming Rainbow 6: Patriots could just bring back tactical shooters back in vogue. You play as one member of Team Rainbow, called upon to deal with a militia group called the “True Patriots”, who are executing people as they see fit, citing corruption in Wall Street as the cause.
