Nokia Lumia 525 Revealed – Upgrade Of The Best Selling Windows Phone

There may be flagships like the Nokia Lumia 1020 and Lumia 1520, but nothing quite sells like the budget handsets. This fact is illustrated by the success of the Nokia Lumia 520, the most affordable Windows Phone 8 device on the market. According to analytics, the Lumia 520 is the most used Windows Phone 8 device and is almost singlehandedly responsible for the growth of Microsoft’s mobile OS. A simple YouTube announcement revealed the Nokia Lumia 525, successor to the popular Lumia 520, here’s all you need to know!

Nokia Lumia 525 – Specs, Details and Price

Most of the affordable Lumia phones had just 512 MB of RAM. Even though Windows Phone 8 ran perfectly well on it, a few power hungry apps and games required 1 GB of RAM, so users of such devices had to make do with an even more limited choice of apps. No more though, the biggest change on the Lumia 525 is the extra RAM. Now coming with 1 GB of RAM, the Lumia 525 will be able to run a lot more apps, including most new games, and will definitely be even more zippier.

Other than that, however, the Lumia 525 is almost exactly same as the outgoing Lumia 520. There’s the same 4 inch screen with 480 x 800 resolution, the same rear snapper without a flash, and it even looks and weighs the same. Of course, there’s still swappable rear panel options as well, but this time around the finish is premium gloss. It also uses the same SoC as its predecessor, just that there’s extra RAM. Here’s the complete specsheet:

  • SoC: Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8227
  • CPU: 1 GHz dual-core Krait
  • GPU: Adreno 305
  • RAM: 1 GB RAM
  • Storage: 8 GB, expandable upto 64 GB via MicroSD slot
  • Screen: 4 inches TFT LCD screen, 480 x 800px (233 ppi)
  • Camera: 5 MP rear facing camera (720P video recording)
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth v4.0, Wi-fi, MicroUSB 2.0 slot
  • Battery: 1430 mAh

The Lumia 525 should be available before the end of the year, and is supposed to be priced similarly, at 199$ unlocked. It will come with the Lumia Black firmware and Windows Phone 8 Update 3 preinstalled. Looks like Nokia has another winner on its hands! Here’s the announcement video:
